Trauma Awareness

Unhealed trauma, also known as hidden or unrecognised trauma, refers to traumatic experiences that may not be immediately apparent or acknowledged by the person experiencing them. Here are some signs that you might have unhealed trauma:

 1 Unexplained Emotional Reactions: You might experience intense emotional reactions to seemingly minor triggers. These reactions can be disproportionate to the current situation but may be linked to unresolved traumatic experiences from the past.

 2 Chronic Anxiety or Stress: If you find yourself constantly anxious or stressed without a clear reason, it's possible that hidden trauma could be contributing to these feelings.

 3 Physical Symptoms: Unrecognised trauma can manifest as physical symptoms, such as headaches, digestive issues, chronic pain, and fatigue. These symptoms may not respond well to medical treatment.

 4 Somatisation: Somatisation is the process of converting psychological distress into physical symptoms. Unhealed trauma can lead to the manifestation of physical ailments that have no clear medical cause.

 5 Difficulty Forming Close Relationships: Hidden trauma can affect your ability to trust others and form meaningful relationships. You might struggle with intimacy and have a fear of getting too close to others.

 6 Low Self-Esteem: Unrecognised trauma can contribute to a negative self-image and low self-esteem. You might believe that you're unworthy or inherently flawed without understanding why.

 7 Mood Swings: Frequent and intense mood swings, along with emotions that seem to come out of nowhere, could be indicative of hidden trauma.

 8 Avoidance Behaviors: You might unconsciously avoid situations, places, or activities that remind you of the trauma, even if you're not fully aware of why you're avoiding them.

 9 Unexplained Triggers: Certain sights, sounds, smells, or situations might trigger intense emotional reactions that seem disproportionate to the present circumstance. These triggers could be connected to unheralded trauma.

 10 Feeling Disconnected: You might feel disconnected from yourself or others, experiencing a sense of numbness or detachment. This can manifest as a lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed or difficulty feeling emotions deeply.
